Godwin Manufacturing, located in Dunn NC, recently revealed a $3.5 million manufacturing expansion and improvement initiative.
The company, which is part of the Godwin Group, plans to complete the project in three steps. The first two are nearing completion and the final step is underway. Godwin said it expects to complete the expansion in mid-August.
The first step began last year as an 18,000-square-foot fabrication expansion. The new addition houses several new state-of-the-art, high-capacity plasma cutting tables. Also installed were several new overhead cranes to manage material movement and additional steel sheet warehousing. The increased fabrication capabilities afford improved efficiency in the beginning stages of manufacturing, the company claimed.
Other improvements include two new 1,200-ton presses that will allow Godwin to expand product lines and materials to keep up with industry demand. The company said it expects to take delivery of the presses soon.
The second step in the initiative included general facility improvement and machinery updates, such as new asphalt, three new high-capacity forklifts and 12 general-use forklifts.
The third and final step commenced recently with a groundbreaking for a new 7,000-square-foot wet paint preparation facility. This building will more than double wet paint production capabilities and alleviate frustrating touch-up paint bottlenecks in the installation and finishing departments, Godwin maintained.
All improvements were implemented to reduce customer lead times, while efficiently increasing overall manufacturing capacity.
