Mayville Engineering absorbs Defiance Metal Products

Dec. 18, 2018
Mayville Engineering Company recently acquired Defiance Metal Products through a private stock purchase.

Mayville Engineering Company (MEC) recently acquired Defiance Metal Products (DMP), an Ohio-based manufacturer of metal products for the commercial vehicle, agriculture, construction and military industries, through a private stock purchase.

As a result of the acquisition, which is effective immediately, DMP becomes a member of the employee-owned MEC family. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

DMP, which is headquartered in Defiance OH, is a full-service metal fabricator and contract manufacturer with two facilities in the Defiance area, one in Heber Springs AR and another in Bedford PA. MEC is employee-owned, has 16 facilities in five different states (Wisconsin, Michigan, Virginia, South Carolina and Mississippi) and provides a range of prototyping, production manufacturing, fabricating, tube forming, coating and assembly services to a variety of markets, including commercial vehicles, on- and off-road recreational vehicles, agricultural, construction, military, mining and industrial.

“This acquisition brings together two great companies into one great team,” said Robert Kamphuis, chairman, president and CEO of MEC. “DMP and MEC both have long histories, blue-chip customers and a talented and committed workforce.

“We’re delighted to welcome DMP’s employees to the MEC family, and we’re excited to work together to keep growing our expanded company.”

Steve Mance will continue as president of DMP and will be involved in integrating the two companies, which anticipate that all of DMP’s 975 employees will remain with the organization, and no changes are expected in the foreseeable future.

“We are very excited about this acquisition and what it means for our employees and our customers,” Mance said. “Both DMP and MEC are outstanding companies with solid corporate values and great employees that will be important for the future. MEC is clearly a strategic long-term investor that is excited about growing the combined company. This acquisition strengthens our joint future and enhances our ability to compete for the long term.”

Kamphuis said the result of the acquisition is a stronger, better company.

“MEC and DMP combined create greater customer and industry diversification, providing more products and processes through an expanded geographic footprint,” he said. “Overall, two great companies become one great team.”
