The new product features an integrated tongue weight scale designed to help trailer owners reach proper tongue weight for each trailer load, improving towing performance and providing greater safety, Fastway said.
The ISBM is made with aircraft-grade aluminum and weighs less than half of comparable steel ball mounts, which makes carrying, adjusting and installing the ISBM easy and comfortable, the company maintained. However, the lightweight frame still can handle a max tongue load of 1,000 pounds and a max trailer weight of 10,000 pounds.
Tongue weight should be 10-15% of the total trailer weight, Fastway said. The ISBM makes it easy to know if the trailer is loaded properly by showing how much of the weight is on the tongue, or where the trailer meets the mount. With a properly balanced load, drivers experience improved steering, better braking control and reduced trailer sway.
The ISBM also boasts a new way of measuring weight utilizing a mechanical spring in the mount, the company asserted.
“(It’s) a simple design that helps bring durability, longevity and peace of mind,” said Jason Harper, one of the engineers who helped design the ISBM.
