Schmitz Cargobull will acquire 100% ownership of Berger Fahrzeugtechnik GmbH after receiving agreement from the company’s shareholders to transfer their remaining shares. The company, which produces trailers and transport solutions, has held a 49% stake in Berger since 2024. The transaction is subject to approval by the relevant competition authorities.

The companies have collaborated since 2024, focusing on combining Berger’s lightweight construction expertise with Schmitz Cargobull’s industrial capabilities and European-wide sales and service network. In 2025, they jointly invested in production technology at the Radfeld site and supported development of the BERGERecotrail Evolution Generation, which combines a weight-optimized lightweight chassis with a modular body system.

The acquisition is intended to strengthen Berger Fahrzeugtechnik’s specialization in lightweight construction while expanding Schmitz Cargobull’s trailer offerings. Customers will gain access to Berger’s lightweight solutions alongside Schmitz Cargobull’s sales, service, and spare parts network, with existing products and services remaining unchanged.

“The collaboration has demonstrated the depth of technical expertise and commitment behind Berger Fahrzeugtechnik’s products,” said Andreas Schmitz, CEO of Schmitz Cargobull AG. “With this acquisition, we gain Berger’s distinctive expertise in lightweight construction, which ideally complements our portfolio. For our customers, this creates an even broader range of efficient transport solutions from a single source.”
