DoD awards Talbert Mfg $360 million trailer contract

The US Department of Defense (DoD) recently awarded a five-year, $360 million contract to Talbert Manufacturing to deliver semitrailers and “associated items.”

The DoD said in a statement “bids were solicited via the internet with one received.” The contract is a “firm-fixed-price” deal for M8724A 34-ton semi-trailers used for “local or line haul of breakbulk and ISO containers.”

The 80-year-old Rensselaer IN-based trailer manufacturer is expected to complete delivery by Jan. 16, 2024, with work locations and funding determined with each order. The U.S. Army Contracting Command in Michigan issued the contract.

The recent order is the latest for the long-time defense contractor, which landed a $68 million DoD contract in 2003 that allowed it to bring back 75 laid-off workers. Talbert completed two other military contracts in the second half of 2018.

The company produces a wide variety of trailers for commercial, military, government, aerospace and energy end users designed for hauling building materials, pipes, and hazardous and nuclear materials. Its products, including 13-axle trailers, goosenecks, spread-axle trailers and lowboys, are sold at dealerships across the country.
