Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) recently awarded J&J Trailers Manufacturers and Sales a $1.2 million contract for the acquisition of 23 boom trailers and associated services and products.
J&J Trailers is based in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. PSPC is the department of the Canadian government responsible for internal servicing and administration.
“Our government is committed to keeping our oceans and waterways healthy, so that Canadians will benefit for generations to come,” said Carla Qualtrough, Minister of PSPC. “These new and modern trailers will help the women and men of the Canadian Coast Guard respond rapidly to environmental spills, while supporting jobs and economic growth in Ontario.”
A boom is a temporary flotation barrier used to contain pollution spills in marine waters, and boom trailers are used to transport them where they’re needed.
The contract includes options to acquire additional trailers and services, up to a value of approximately $6.3 million.
This contract will create up to eight new jobs, while maintaining 32 existing jobs, PSPC said.
“These trailers will provide the Canadian Coast Guard with the tools and equipment they need to (keep coasts and waterways safe and clean), while creating jobs in Ontario,” said Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard.

- Under this contract, this new equipment will be delivered in the coming months to Richmond and Victoria, British Columbia; Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador; and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
- The 23 trailers will be delivered within 160 days of the contract award date.
