Berdex to build livestock trailers in Iowa

March 22, 2022
Berdex USA will manufacture three different types of livestock trailers in Ames: conventionally ventilated trailers, cross-ventilated trailers, and climatized trailers

Netherlands-based Berdex, a global manufacturer of livestock trailers, will expand manufacturing capabilities to the United States and Ames, Iowa. Ames will now serve as Berdex USA's U.S. headquarters, according to a report from the Ames Economic Development Commission.

Berdex USA will be located in the former Caremoli facility just east of Interstate 35 on Highway 30, and is expected to bring approximately 20 new jobs to the Ames community.

“Berdex USA will be a tremendous addition to the Ames regional economy," says Dan Culhane, President and CEO of the Ames Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Commission. "The best part about this exciting project is that the company will be taking an underutilized building, recently annexed into the City of Ames, and putting meaningful employment opportunities within it. This is what economic development is about, mutual benefit, and this project provides that both for the company and the Ames community. We can’t wait for them to get started!”

Berdex USA will manufacture three different types of livestock trailers in Ames: conventionally ventilated trailers, cross-ventilated trailers, and climatized trailers. These trailers will be targeted for top swine producers, cattle producers, and other types of livestock producers.

"We are thrilled to establish the Berdex USA US Headquarters in Ames. Berdex trailers are built on a foundation of craftsmanship and innovation. They are proven and tested to comply with the most stringent health, safety, and quality requirements through many years of usage in Europe," explains Berdex General Manager Tom Barragy. "We appreciate the support we have received from the State of Iowa, City of Ames, and the Ames Economic Development Commission team to make this project happen."

Although new to the United States, Berdex has been developing and producing chassis and bodywork for national and international transport since 1947.
