Stonepeak buys BMO truck, trailer lender; now Longview

"We've been here a long time. We expect to be here for the next 50 years. You heard it here first," Longview Capital Solutions CEO tells NTDA members

Stonepeak has completed its acquisition of BMO Financial Group’s Transportation Finance and Vendor Finance businesses in the U.S. and Canada, the global infrastructure investment firm reported Oct. 29. The new, independent company will be known as Longview Capital Solutions.

Longview is a leading commercial equipment finance platform serving customers across North America, and one of the largest lenders to the commercial truck and trailer segment.

Built on decades of industry experience, the company provides customized financing solutions across transportation, logistics, construction, agriculture, healthcare, technology, vendor finance, and other essential industries. These solutions are delivered through two specialized lines of business: Longview Transportation Finance and Longview Vendor Finance.

Longview CEO Gary Kempinski teased the deal’s closing at the National Trailer Dealers Association’s 36th Annual Convention in early October, noting that the lender—through its various corporate identities over the years—has been to all of the NTDA gatherings, “or close to it.”

“We're trying to make it something simple, but we do take the long view,” he told the dealers. “We've been here a long time. We expect to be here for the next 50 years. You heard it here first.

“But what is not going to change is our people. We'll have the same teams, from the field people to the credit people to the collections people to the people who answer the phone. All the same people, all the same systems—the systems that we've used and honed for a long time. And, most importantly, the exact same commitment to transportation, truck and trailer. Nothing changes in that regard, and we hope to be even better in the next chapter.”

Under a transition services arrangement, BMO will continue to service and originate current and future loans on behalf of Longview during this transition period. This arrangement will provide continuity for customers and business partners and ensure uninterrupted service throughout the transition, according to the Stonepeak news release.

“Stonepeak is excited to support Longview, and we and the management team will continue to invest in its capital solutions, technology, and capabilities while preserving the customer-focused culture that has been instrumental to the Company’s success,” said Will Schleier, senior managing director at Stonepeak. “Longview’s strong market position, diversified customer base, embedded OEM relationships, and experienced leadership team position it well for long-term growth.”
