The safest plants in the trailer industry

May 8, 2015

The Truck Trailer Manufacturers Association recognized trailer manufacturers with the best safety records last year, presenting them with plant safety awards during the opening session of the  annual TTMA convention April 30.

Knowing that exposure to injuries increases as the number of workers grows, TTMA gave awards to the top small, medium, and large manufacturing plants.  The association also had separate awards in recognition of the special challenges manufacturers face in producing tank trailers.

Honored this year for outstanding safety records were:

● Category A  (over 750,000 man-hours worked last year):  Great Dane Trailers' plant in Brazil, Indiana, and the Heil Trailer tank manufacturing plant in  Athens, Tennessee.

● Category B (300,000 to 750,000 man hours):  Great Dane's plant in Huntsville, Tennessee, and Heil Trailer's tank facility in Rhome, Texas.

● Category C (under 300,000 man hours):  Con-way Manufacturing in Searcy, Arkansas, and the Stephens Pneumatics tank plant in Haslet, Texas.

The M H Eby plant in Story City, Iowa, had the most improved safety record among general trailer manufacturers last year, and the Polar Tank Trailer location in Holdingford, Minnesota, showed the best improvement among tank trailer manufacturers.
