Truck sales take a tumble in November

November retail sales of medium- and heavy-duty trucks sales slipped in all classes compared to the month before, but continue to post gains over 2017, according to figures compiled by Wards Intelligence.

Dealers sold 64,766 trucks with gross vehicle weight ratings above 10,000 pounds last month, down 9% from October. By weight, the totals were 25,363 in Class 3 (unchanged); 1,558 in Class 4 (-13%), 6,155 in Class 5 (-13%); 5,328 in Class 6 (-11%); 5,060 in Class 7 (-13%); and 21,302 in Class 8 (-15%).

Compared to sales in November 2017 the totals were up 5%, with Class 8 running 21% ahead of last year and Class 4 up 10%. Class 3, the largest market, posted a decrease from a year ago, down 2% Class 7 was also down 2%.

For the first 11 months of the year, medium- and heavy-duty truck sales were up 8% compared with 2017, again led by Class 8 and its 32% improvement. And, again, Class 3 (-5%) has posted the only decline in the YTD total.
