Retail sales of medium- and heavy-duty trucks in March posted double-digit gains in every class compared to the month before, according to figures compiled by Wards Intelligence.
Dealers sold 67,684 trucks with gross vehicle weight ratings above 10,000 pounds last month (+20% over February). By weight, the totals were 27,165 in Class 3 (+23%); 1,3590 in Class 4 (+22%), 7,302 in Class 5 (+22%); 7,197 in Class 6 (+24%); 5,046 Class 7 (+14%); and 19,384 in Class 8 (+16%).
Compared to sales in March 2017, the totals were up 8%, paced by a 31% gain in Class 8 and an 18% gain in Class 5. Results from the other classes were basically flat.
For the first three months of the year, medium- and heavy-duty truck sales were up 8% compared with 2017, again led by Class 8’s 37% improvement from a year ago. Class 4 YTD sales have climbed 20%.
