ESAB launches Ruffian EMP 270G engine-driven welding generator

The machine is built and tested for harsh construction environments, designed with a small footprint for service trucks, and features smooth performance in all welding processes

ESAB has introduced the Ruffian EMP 270G engine-driven welding generator, which offers a multiprocess welding output of 270A at 100% duty cycle and 11kW of generator power through its multiple 120VAC and 240VAC auxiliary outlets.

Assembled in Texas, the Ruffian EMP 270G combines ESAB’s next-generation inverter with a made-in-America 23.5-HP KOHLER Command Pro CH730 gasoline engine. The machine is built and tested for harsh construction environments, designed with a small footprint for service trucks, and features smooth performance in all welding processes.

“The Ruffian EMP 270G builds on the success of our Ruffian 150G engine drive, offering a stronger welding output and more generator power to meet the needs of users in the construction, oil and gas, mobile welding service, maintenance and repair, agriculture and emergency power markets,” says Mateus Fernandes, global product manager, ESAB. “For MIG or flux cored welding, it pairs seamlessly with portable wire feeders like ESAB’s RobustFeed AVS ECHO or Tweco spool gun.”

The Ruffian EMP 270G features a next-generation inverter which provides an easy-to-start arc in all welding modes, advanced controls to fine-tune the arc (such as Arc Force for Stick and Cables Calibration for MIG welding), in addition to synergic lines for fast and easy set-up, ESAB noted. Ruffian can be used for all processes and electrode types, including not only 7018, but also 6010/6011 and hardfacing electrodes. It can also carbon arc gouge with 3/16-in. carbons.

Weighing 425 lbs. with base mounting bolt holes and an 11-gallon fuel tank for hours of run time, the Ruffian EMP 270G is lighter and has a smaller footprint than other machines in its class, according to ESAB. Designed with fully removeable doors, it allows easy access to the battery and other internal parts and means changing the oil requires no tools and little time.

The Ruffian EMP 270G has four 120VAC 20A GFCI receptacles, one 240VAC (6-50R) dedicated outlet and another 120/240V hybrid outlet, all protected by circuit breakers and rubber covers. It has a peak (or surge) output of 11kW for stronger starting performance and continuous output of 10.5kW.
