Miller Electric, a manufacturer of arc welding equipment, is celebrating its 90th anniversary by providing 90 scholarships for welding students in 2020.
The company, along with the American Welding Society (AWS) Foundation, made the announcement during FABTECH, saying they will award each of the 90 winning students a $2,000 scholarship to support their welding education—for a total of $180,000 in funds.
Students 18 years or older who are currently enrolled in a full-time welding education program are eligible for the scholarship. Applicants must have a high school diploma (or proof of graduation eligibility), a GPA of 2.5 or higher and be a US citizen.
“Miller is committed to advancing the craft of welding through training and education,” said Becky Tuchscherer, group president at Miller. “We are proud to partner with the AWS Foundation to help these students continue their education and ultimately join the welding workforce.”
Students can submit an application for “Miller 90th Anniversary Scholarship: Building Our Future” assistance by visiting scholarship.aws.org between Dec 1 and March 1, 2020. Before applying, students must register and create an academic profile online, and provide a personal statement and career objectives.
The 90 award recipients will be selected by the AWS Selection Committee in June 2020, and winners will be announced no later than July 15, 2020.
“The AWS Foundation is honored to partner with Miller in celebration of their 90th anniversary and thank Miller for the positive impact these scholarships will have on the next generation of professionals in the welding industry,” said Monica Pfarr, executive director of the AWS Foundation.
