Continental has partnered with Navistar to design a new lineup of 19.5” tires for regional on- and off-road use, according to a company press release.
The Continental HSR+ regional steer/all-position and HDR+ regional on- and off-road drive tires are both available in load range H, delivering an extra 220 pounds of load carrying capacity per tire in single and dual applications. For a dual-drive pick-up truck, this equates to an extra 880 pounds per load of carrying capacity. The tires are speed rated for 87 miles per hour. The tires will be OE standard position on all GM Silverado 5500 and 6500 vehicles and International CV Series vehicles from Navistar, starting June 2022.
The Continental HSR+ regional steer/all-position features a 16/32” tread depth with a closed shoulder tread design, delivering even wear and reduced road noise for driver comfort. The improved tread compound is resistant to tearing, delivering 12% more miles to removal versus the HSR in curbing tests. A scuff rib protects against curbing, cuts, and abrasions. It is versatile to be used in all axle positions when the vehicle is driven primarily on-road. The HSR+ is available in 225/70R19.5 size in Load Range G and H.
The Continental HDR+ on/off-road drive tire has an 18/32” tread depth and open shoulder tread design for added traction. It delivers an off-road advantage in mud, dirt, and gravel. The improved tread compound is resistant to tearing, delivering 12% more miles to removal versus the HDR in curbing tests. Like the HSR+, a scuff rib protects against curbing, cuts, and abrasions. The aggressive tread design provides excellent lateral stability to minimize squirm and improve handling. The HDR+ is available in 225/70R19.5 size in load range G and H.
“Continental is proud to partner with Navistar to develop the best tire for the needs of medium duty vehicle fleets,” said Shaun Uys, Continental’s head of strategic fleets and original equipment for truck tires in the Americas region. “Our tire engineers carefully balance performance characteristics such as tear resistance, safe handling, and traction to deliver a tire that will perform in regional and on/off-road environments.”
