Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Down 2% in February

Medium and heavy truck sales were down 2% in February over the same period a year ago and up 10% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 51,834 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, down from February 2016 (52,834) and up from January 2017 (47,189).

Compared with February 2016, Class 8 trucks were down 29% (11,200, compared to 15,876). Class 7 sales were 4,090, down 3% from 4,201.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 99,023 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, down 2% from 100,798 in 2016. Class 8 sales have been 22,144, a 30% decrease from the same period last year (31,825). Class 7 sales have been down 6% (8,029, compared to 8,535).

Total sales of all classes have been up 7%, from 1,514,137 to 1,621,259.

In addition to Class 7-8, Class 5 is down 7%. The biggest increase has been in Class 3 (25%).
