Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Down 13% in October

Medium and heavy truck sales were down 13% in October over the same period a year ago and down 5% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 55,796 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, down from October 2015 (63,820) and September 2016 (59,037).

Compared with October 2015, Class 8 trucks were down 29% (13,618, compared to 19,252). Class 7 sales were 5,047, down 4% from 5,282.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 571,858 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, down 5% from 602,912 in 2015. Class 8 sales have been 163,091, a 22% decrease from the same period last year (208,793). Class 7 sales have been up 4% (50,952, compared to 49,080).

Total sales of all classes have been up 6%, from 8,449,710 to 8,981,203.

Every class has been up, except for Class 8 and Class 4 (down 2%). The biggest increase has been in Class 6 (13%).
