WABCO Holdings Inc has added three functions to its TrailerGUARD system, a state-of-the-art telematics technology for trailer fleet management. TrailerGUARD recently won the 2010 Trailer Telematics Award for asset protection.

TrailerGUARD combines telematics with diagnosis of the vehicle's various operating data. From any location via an Internet portal, fleet managers can monitor trailer doors, tire pressure, and axle load, among other operating information. TrailerGUARD also locates a vehicle in real time, allowing optimized use of each trailer.

With TrailerGUARD's newest functions, fleet managers can remotely identify trailers that require service through the portal's display of warning lamps indicating any errors in the trailer's Electronic Braking System (EBS). EBS error warnings allow rapid intervention — either remote or on-site — to ensure compliance with road regulations. Operators can also monitor an individual's driving behavior to confirm compliance with the fleet's safety policy through the portal's display of near-rollover alerts and by downloading EBS operating data.

TrailerGUARD's new functions include: EBS Advanced, which tracks EBS warning lamps in the vehicle's cabin; Roll Stability Support (RSS), which shows when and how many times RSS has been required to stabilize the vehicle against rollover; and Operating Data Recorder, which allows analysis of the driver's performance as well as the trailer's utilization.
