Thermo King Corp is celebrating its 50-year anniversary within the container shipping industry in 2006. Thermo King built the first container refrigeration unit in 1956, just 18 years after the company invented the first truck refrigeration unit.

The company's Magnum container unit offers flexibility and security in shipping a wide range of products by maintaining temperatures from +30° to -35° C.

Shipping lines such as Maersk, OOCL, Hapag Lloyd, Hamburg Süd, and CCNI are seeing the benefits of Magnum. More than 30,000 Magnum units have been purchased since the unit's debut in 2002, and they are carrying a variety of cargoes.

The Advanced Fresh Air Management System (AFAM+), a computerized system that manages carbon dioxide levels within a container by using a motorized fresh air exchange door, is another recent innovation brought to the container shipping industry by Thermo King.

Thermo King's genset product line is also getting attention, achieving record sales in 2005.
