PPG Industries and DaimlerChrysler Motors Corp have teamed to publish a Paint Condition Deck to assist autobody repair technicians in identifying paint conditions such as acid rain, chipping, dieback, orange peel, peeling, and solvent pop.

The 60-page Paint Condition Deck shows a photograph of each condition, as well as an illustration of how the condition may affect the layers of coatings on the vehicle. On the back of the card is a description of the condition, its cause, a repair procedure, and suggestions for preventing the condition.

The deck also offers safety information, instructions on paint and related materials, as well as power tool usage. It opens so that the sample card can be held next to the actual paint condition to assist in identification.
