Retail truck sales in May were up 5% over the same period a year ago, and the year-to-date sales show an increase of 7.9%, according to figures compiled by Ward's Communications.

Retail truck sales in May were up 5% over the same period a year ago, and the year-to-date sales show an increase of 7.9%, according to figures compiled by Ward's Communications.

The biggest gain in May came in Class 6 (53.2%, from 3,849 to 5,896). Class 8 continued to be strong with a 28.8% increase (12,551 to 16,161). For the year to date, Class 6 is up 52.5% and Class 8 is up 44.5%.

Every class showed a gain in both May and year-to-date, with the smallest being Class 3 (3.7% in May) and Class 1 (6.5% in year to date).
