The state of New York is providing $11.5 million in funding to provide incentives for the purchase, or retrofitting of Class 3-8 trucks and buses to CNG in New York City.

This program is open to all private fleets that are domiciled and/or operate primarily (70% of the time) in the five boroughs of New York City, including those based in New Jersey.

This program is designed to reduce the incremental costs of purchasing or converting trucks and buses to CNG by as much as 80%.

Many fleets across the region are integrating CNG vehicles and saving between $1.50 and $2.00 per gallon of fuel by using natural gas.

Like any state or Federal funding program, there are rules and guidelines that must be followed. The NJ Clean Cities Coalition, together with a variety of stakeholders, is available to help navigate through the paperwork, develop a CNG conversion plan, obtain/retrofit vehicles and ensure there is an infrastructure and financial support to operate a world class CNG fleet program.
