Barnhart Crane & Rigging Co has placed a significant order with German heavy haulage trailer manufacturer Goldhofer for the supply of the company's latest self-propelled heavy-duty transport modules

Barnhart Crane & Rigging Co, based in Memphis TN, has placed a significant order with German heavy haulage trailer manufacturer Goldhofer for the supply of the company's latest PST/SL-E self-propelled heavy-duty transport modules.

Valued at about $11.3 million (9 million euros), the order includes 108 axle lines that will be delivered over the next two to three years, with the first deliveries commencing in autumn 2006.

The modular nature of the Goldhofer system will allow Barnhart the flexibility to adapt the configuration to suit any heavy haulage requirement, by adding axle lines to the length and width of the trailer.

The Goldhofer self-propelled modules feature electronic multi-way steering that enables normal, diagonal, transversal and carousel steering. Their optimum frame construction allows for extreme load concentration, while uneven terrain can be negotiated thanks to hydraulic axle compensation of +/- 300 mm.

The delivery will include a distribution of driven axle lines, comprising four and six axle modules as well as some split modules. The self-propelled modules guarantee the smooth delivery of power thanks to their hydrostatic drive, ensuring even the heaviest of loads can be moved jerk-free at a speed of up to 17 km/hour.
