The Fontaine Truck Equipment operation in Louisville KY has been authorized to install rail adaptive equipment on a shipthrough basis. With the approval from Ford Modified Vehicle Engineering, the Fontaine operation now can equip Ford Super Duty vehicles to operate on railroad tracks in addition to streets and highways.

The approval process took more than 18 months to complete. Fontaine used a certified independent test center to assist in conducting multiple test sequences. Three different vehicles were crash-tested in order to prove that trucks equipped with the high-rail gear could still comply with applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
