According to FTR Associates, the current environment affecting driver availability suggests that attracting and retaining drivers will remain a challenge through 2005.

While there was minor improvement in the Driver Labor Index in December 2004 as calculated by FTR, the combination of expanded trucking freight and increased competition from other labor markets continues to put a strain on driver recruitment activities. The Driver Labor Market Indicators report looks at supply and demand issues as well as how freight and broader labor markets all affect the pool of available drivers.
