Diesel drops 4.3 cents

Diesel prices took a significant dive last week, dropping 4.3 cents to average $2.163 per gallon nationally, the Energy Information Administration said.

This marks the first major rollback coming after eight weeks of consecutive hikes that amounted to a 34.3-cent increase.

All regions posted a price drop- the most dramatic of which was the Gulf Coast region, with a 5.1-cent decline to $2.096. The Central Atlantic region, which posted the most modest price decline, shed 2.9 cents to average $2.278. The Gulf Coast also claims the cheapest diesel in the country at $2.096 per gallon. California is once again the most expensive region to fill up in, at $2.386.
