Dana Corp's Commercial Vehicle Systems group describes benefits of the Dana Spicer TIMS tire inflation and monitor system for trailers.

A new six-page brochure from Dana Corp's Commercial Vehicle Systems group describes benefits of the Dana Spicer TIMS tire inflation and monitor system for trailers. Included are an itemization of cost savings from properly inflated tires, the system's advantages versus constant-pressurization systems, and information on integrating TIMS with Bendix TABS-6 trailer ABS.

When trailer tires are properly inflated, the brochure says a typical fleet can generate savings in excess of $1,000 per year. Citing Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) data, the brochure points out that tires underinflated by as little as 10% will cause fuel degradation penalties of roughly 0.5% and can shorten tread life by as much as 16%.

TIMS checks all tires automatically, and air is directed only to the underinflated tire until the proper pressure is achieved. The system is available as a stand-alone system or integrated with Bendix TABS-6 trailer ABS.
