Minneapolis-based third-party logistics provider C.H. Robinson Worldwide has acquired two freight forwarding companies - Hirdes Group Worldwide and Bussini Transport S.r.l.. When combined, total gross revenue for the two companies in 2004 was approximately $52 million.
Founded in 1871, Hirdes provides air and ocean international forwarding with local cartage via seven locations in Germany and three locations in the U.S. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Bussini, which was founded in 1939, provides international freight forwarding, customs brokerage, and domestic truck services out of Milan, Italy. As part of the acquisition, C.H. Robinson hired the company's 27 employees. Further terms were not disclosed.
"Hirdes and Bussini are strong, successful companies and will be important additions to Robinson's international freight forwarding network," said Joseph Mulvehill, vp-international for $4.3-billion C.H. Robinson. "Expanding our international network is one of our key long-term growth objectives and both of these companies will enhance our capabilities and our international relationships."
