Caterpillar Inc is joining the United States government and 16 corporations in support of a major expansion of the 21st Century Truck Partnership to improve efficiency and safety of commercial and military trucks and buses.

Sherril K West, vice-president of Caterpillar's Technical Services Division, joined US Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham and other federal officials and corporate executives in making the announcement at a ceremony near Detroit MI recently.

The partnership teams the US Departments of Energy, Defense, and Transportation and the Environmental Protection Agency with participating companies, including Caterpillar. All partners have pledged to share costs of expanded research, development, and deployment of technologies to improve efficiency and safety of on-highway trucks and buses while maintaining a dedication to environmental responsibility.
