Diesel prices increased to $1.679 per gallon this week after reaching a one-year high of $1.648 last week, the Dept. of Energy announced.

In California, which traditionally scores the highest national average, the price is up 14.8 cents to $2.16 per gallon.

The cheapest diesel prices surveyed were in the lower Atlantic region of the East Coast, at $1.60 per gallon.

Industry analysts predict fuel prices will remain high throughout the summer, as crude prices are expected to remain well above OPEC’s target index.
