Hobart Brothers has introduced a new metal-cored wire designed to provide users with high-quality welds, improve productivity, and reduce post-weld clean up.
The Hobart FabCOR Edge MC wire features patented silicon control technology similar to Hobart Brothers' Metalloy Vantage metal-cored wires, helping to minimize silicon island deposits (especially along the toes of the weld) and reducing the need for post-weld cleaning. The wire also offers higher depositions rates compared with solid wires, allowing for increases in productivity up to 30%. It is well-suited for applications in the heavy equipment manufacturing industry, as well as for use on automated or robotic applications, storage vessel and rail car fabrication, and on steel structures. The FabCOR Edge MC wire performs well in constant voltage (CV) applications and can provide even higher deposition rates when used with a power source offering pulsing capabilities.
The FabCOR Edge MC wire features wetting characteristics that help welding operators create smooth, flat weld beads with uniform fusion, along with a smooth, stable arc that makes it easy to control. To lessen the risk of cracking and associated rework, the wire produces low hydrogen weld deposits — between 2.84 and 2.91 ml per 100 g of weldment, depending on shielding gas mixture. Hobart Brothers recommends a gas mixture of 75% to 95% argon with a balance of CO2. With this range of shielding gas mixture, the wire also provides a tensile strength between 85,000 and 90,000 psi.
Hobart Brothers offers the FabCOR Edge MC wire in .045-, .052-, and 1/16-inch diameters on 33-lb spools and in the company's exclusive 750-lb X-Pak.
