Oshkosh Truck Corp has been selected to provide contractor logistics support (CLS) to the U S Marine Corps. The company said that if all options are exercised, the contract has a potential value of more than $60 million over 10 years.
Oshkosh said it will modernize the Marines’ traditional supply management system using an Internet-based business parts ordering and tracking system developed by Oshkosh to fulfill all logistics support for the new medium tactical vehicle replacement (MTVR) trucks.
Under the CLS initiative, Oshkosh’s electronic commerce system must interface with the current Marine Corps supply and accounting system. The system will allow the Marines to reduce lead times for parts orders, provide real-time order status via the Internet and provide life-cycle analysis. As part of the same initiative, Oshkosh will also provide bumper-to-bumper parts and service support for the new MTVR fleet of up to 8,168 vehicles.
The CLS program covers a variety of other services including vehicle repair, parts and service support for major components, fleet management services via on-site field service representatives, technical maintenance and operator manual development, inventory management, and a telephone call center that's available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
