CARGO SECURITY is high on the list of advantages of the Schmitz SKO Express trailer for courier and parcel delivery carriers. While most European freight trailers are curtainsiders or other “soft side” versions, this express van has sidewalls of Ferroplast, a thin version of the Schmitz reefer insulated sidewall. The sandwich panels have prepainted steel skins and a core of high-density polyurethane foam. A roller door at the rear provides similar security.
For cargo protection, the inner walls are completely smooth, as are the outside skins. Inside, 300 mm (12") high scuff plates of aluminum protect against lift truck damage. On the front bulkhead is a 750 mm (30") high galvanized steel scuff plate.
The Express trailer is fitted with the new ROTOS running gear, which is standard after completion of extensive fleet testing. Produced by Schmitz Cargobull, the new ROTOS axle has unitized hubs with maintenance-free bearings, improved disc brake ventilation system, and a weight-optimized floating caliper. It has both electronically controlled braking (EBS) and a roll stability program (RSP), as well as the usual antilock braking system (ABS). The multi-ride height (MRH) suspension enables level riding at different coupling heights. The tires are 455/40R 22.5 wide singles. Schmitz Cargobull AG, Bahnhofstrasse 22, D-48612 Horstmar, Germany.
