Medium and heavy trucks sold at an even slower pace in April, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.
Dealers sold 47,017 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, down 21% from April 2006 (59,177) and 6% from March 2007 (50,040).
Compared with April 2006, Class 8 trucks dropped 45%, followed by Class 7 at 26%.
Through the first four months of 2007, truck dealers sold 185,211 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, an 18% decline from the corresponding period of 2006.
Brisk sales of light-duty trucks (GVW ratings of 10,000 pounds or less) kept the overall market at a decline of just 5% versus April 2006, with Class 4 up 23% and Class 2 ahead 20%. For the year, total sales were down 3%.
