Accumulative sales of heavy-duty trucks amounted to 209,228 units in China from January to May of 2007, up 63.7% year-over-year, according to Research and Markets in its China Heavy-duty Truck Industry Report, 2007.
The heavy truck market increased fastest among segmented markets of the auto industry. During January to May of 2007, the sales amount of complete vehicles was 35,257 units, rising 52% year-over-year; chassis sales amounted to 95,856 units, increasing 36.7% year-over-year; and the sales of semi-trailer towing vehicles was 78,236 units, up 126.2% year-over-year.
Because the heavy-duty truck market has been growing rapidly in China in the recent years, most companies are still concentrating on the domestic market, and overseas market expansion is slow. Heavy truck exports were 7,948 units in China from January to April of 2007, up 19% year-over-year, accounting for only 5% in the total sales amount of the industry.
