Increased demand for factory installation of Air-Weigh on-board truck scales has led to the development of an in-dash, fully integrated, digital scale as a direct replacement for the traditional 2" dash air suspension gauge.
Truck buyers soon will be able to spec Air-Weigh's full-function on-board truck scale instead of air suspension gauges that operators have used to estimate axle weight. In a standard 2" package, the new AW5801 Air-Weigh truck scale will include a keypad and three-line LCD display screen.
“Dial-type air gauges have been used since the early '70s, but very few operators have been able to rely on their accuracy to actually eliminate expensive check-weighing,” said Peter Powell, Air-Weigh's vice-president of marketing. “Most operators just use a gauge to tell them when they have to go to the expense of check-weighing. The Air-Weigh Scale displays actual on-the-ground weight with incredible accuracy.”
Announced at the International Trucking Show and available later this year, the new scale will fit into the standard 2" dash hole and gauge clusters. It will be available in bezels and backlighting to match each truck manufacturer's specifications. The new truck scale is fully compatible with all AW5700 and AW5800 Trailer Scales.
Air-Weigh Self-Weighing Trailer Scales are currently available from more than 70 trailer manufacturers. Air-Weigh communicates between tractor and trailers via multiplexing over the existing vehicle wiring, so additional trailer disconnect wires are not required.
The Air-Weigh Truck Scale is calibrated to the specific characteristics of each manufacturer's truck or tractor and displays weight in 20-lb or -kg increments. Weight receipt printers are optional. Its weight data can be automatically downloaded to the vehicle's J-1708 data bus for further communication to fleet operations.
