Kenworth of Birmingham has opened a large truck dealership facility with the latest in maintenance equipment and driver amenities. A member of Kenworth's dealer network, the Birmingham AL dealership covers 92,000 square feet in two buildings on 10 acres. It replaces a 33,000-square-foot facility.
The new main building includes 40 service bays and three overhead cranes for hoisting truck parts and equipment. A 12,000-square-foot parts warehouse within the building is the largest dealer warehouse in Alabama.
This building includes three bedrooms, two bathrooms with showers, a washer and dryer, and a driver's lounge with Internet and phone connections, and cable TV.
The smaller auxiliary building contains six Kenworth PremierCare ExpressLube bays, alignment equipment, and a machine that diagnoses trucks for needed repairs. Bob Mitchell, owner-president of the company that owns Kenworth of Birmingham, said the auxiliary facility is staffed with a separate crew to ensure that trucks are quickly serviced, aligned and analyzed to minimize waiting time for the truck operator.
The dealership is at 2220 Finley Blvd at the Finley exit from Interstate 65. A 400-sq-ft Kenworth sign provides extensive visibility from the freeway. Mitchell said the dealership should be open on Sundays by the end of first-quarter 2004.
Kenworth of Birmingham also operates three other dealer locations in Alabama: Kenworth of Dothan, Kenworth of Mobile, and Kenworth of Montgomery.
