International Truck and Engine Corp. announced that its 8600 and 9000i Series vehicles will now be available with a Cummins ISM engine rated 410 hp. International 5000i Series trucks will be offered with Cummins’ new ISM 425V HP (vocational rating).
The new engine ratings target regional haul and severe-service customers, the company says. They offer increased horsepower and 1,550 ft-lb of torque in a lightweight engine package-just 2,190 lb. dry weight.
The Cummins ISM is equipped with Load-Based Speed Control, a feature designed to optimize shifting by managing engine rpm according to changing operating conditions, such as vehicle weight and terrain. Also standard on the new engines is Gear-Down Protection, which encourages drivers to operate in top gear for the best possible fuel economy.
