New York MTA places clean diesel bus order

New York City-based MTA Bus Co., a division of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority, has purchased 317 Cat C13-powered MCI coaches equipped with particulate filters. The first deliveries will arrive in January, and will continue through 2006.

"The purchase of Cat C13 engines retrofitted with diesel particulate filters is a significant step toward a comprehensive goal of clean diesel to preserve the quality of New York's air," said Jeffrey Headean, Cat on-highway engine specialty market manager. MTA Bus Co. operates seven bus companies covering 47 local routes and 35 express routes. The companies operate 1,228 buses combined.
