VT SVC Inc, a subsidiary of VT Systems Inc., announced that it has received an order for 248 Kidron Ultra Temp hybrid refrigeration truck bodies. The bodies were ordered by Idealease Inc., on behalf of its client Schwan Food Company. The 248 units are the largest single Ultra Temp order to date with deliveries beginning in the fourth quarter of 2009.

Ultra Temp, an advanced hybrid system for refrigerated distribution, is a state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly approach to combining the benefits of cold plate refrigeration and mechanical refrigeration. Ultra Temp delivers the low operating costs, complete high reliability and long life advantages associated with cold plates. Plus, Ultra Temp offers unlimited route capability, automatic defrost and lower weight advantages of a mechanical refrigeration system.

The Ultra Temp features fast temperature recovery, simple maintenance and green technology. Blowers are used to move across the cold plates, immediately lowering the interior temperature for better product protection on multi-stop routes. The system requires no belts or microprocessors and no extra diesel engine, keeping time spent maintaining the unit to a minimum while reducing emissions.

Kidron jointly developed the Ultra Temp with Azure Dynamics (TSX:AZD). This hybrid refrigeration system draws energy from the chassis engine during normal driving and delivers it to the cold plates. By eliminating the diesel engine that is part of conventional refrigeration, the Ultra Temp can save up to a gallon of fuel per hour and maintains temperature set point even when the chassis engine is turned off.
