Texas couple's Doc Holliday-themed Peterbilt 379 to SuperRigs judges: 'I'm your huckleberry'

Shell Rotella's 41st SuperRigs not only showed up with a vengeance, but a reckoning

GILLETTE, Wyoming—Truett and Crystal Novosad of College Station, Texas rolled out of Shell Rotella's 41st SuperRigs truck beauty contest $10,000 richer after judges named their "Doc Holliday"-themed 2007 Peterbilt 379 EXHD "Best in Show."

The Novosads' black-and-red 2005 Peterbilt 2005 named Wyatt Earp was featured in Shell Rotella's booth at the Mid America Trucking Show in March, but like the final showdown in "Tombstone," it was Doc Holliday's shot to take.

The two-toned blue Pete with a tufted interior and Holliday quote "My hypocrisy only goes so far" emblazoned on the back also earned the first Steve Sturgess Best Theme award. Sturgess, who was a fixture in trucking journalism and a former SuperRigs judge, passed away last September.

The event was held at Gilette's CAM-PLEX from June 8-10 with several categories for working and non-working trucks. The category winners and a few other selectees will appear on the 2024 SuperRigs calendar. Shell Rotella handed out over $25,000 in prizes to its winners. Mark Aragon from Lasalle, Colorado won Best of Show first runner-up and $4,000 for his 2003 Peterbilt 379 EXHD called Slammed Distraction, and Ben Overton of Winnipeg, Mantitoba, Canada was awarded second runner-up and $2,000 for his 2020 Kenworth W9B.

Cody Davis from Cokeville, Wyoming took first place in the Tractor/Trailer Division and Best Lights for his 2022 Kenworth W900L and was the recipient of the People's Choice Award.

The category winners and a few other selectees will appear on the 2024 SuperRigs calendar.
