E-Z Pack Manufacturing has filed for a patent through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its new front loader refuse truck body equipped with a Compressed Natural Gas integrated fuel system.

“As the solid waste industry continues to accelerate its adoption of green energy technologies, the problem commonly encountered by body manufacturers has been where to efficiently store CNG fuel cells,” said Jim Rogers, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at E-Z Pack. “CNG fuel systems require more space and weight than conventional diesel power. Placing them above or under the body either increases height or decreases ground clearance, and consequently, vulnerability to damage. This is a significant challenge because refuse trucks are already some of the heaviest vehicles on the road and waste haulers consistently struggle to meet federal highway requirements for roads and bridges.”

“Another issue has been the practical matter of providing enough fuel capacity for the vehicle during its daily operations.

“Our engineers have solved these concerns by designing a body with CNG tanks integrated within the body profile, allowing for up to 90 diesel gallons equivalent fuel. This integration also allows best possible placement of weight, maximizing legal payloads. That translates to more revenue and a greater return on investment.”
