Dorsey Trailer is collaborating with Knight Rider Historians to help complete the restoration of the original screen-used semi trailer featured in the iconic 1980s television series Knight Rider.

The trailer, originally manufactured by Dorsey Trailer in the 1980s, served as the mobile command center for the show’s high-tech operations. After decades out of the spotlight, it has been carefully restored by the Knight Rider Historians, a dedicated group known for preserving and documenting the legacy of the series.

As the restoration enters its final phase, Dorsey Trailer has stepped in to support the project by providing primer and gloss black paint materials, helping ensure the trailer is finished to a standard that reflects its original on-screen appearance.

“This is a special moment for us,” said Joseph Scott of Dorsey Trailer. “To be part of bringing back what may be the most recognizable Dorsey trailer ever built is something we’re incredibly proud of. It just feels right to help finish what we started decades ago.”

In addition to supplying materials, Dorsey Trailer is working to recreate a historically accurate VIN plate for the trailer, an effort that reflects the company’s commitment to authenticity and craftsmanship, even when original manufacturing methods are no longer in use.

Re-premiere set for September

The fully restored trailer is expected to make its public debut at Retro Con in Pennsylvania this September, where fans will get their first look at the completed command center. Dorsey Trailer plans to attend the unveiling and will be recognized on-site for its contribution to the project.

“This project has always been about honoring the legacy of Knight Rider,” said Joe Huth of Knight Rider Historians. “Having Dorsey involved in the final stages brings everything full circle. Their support means a lot, not just to us, but to fans who have followed this journey.”

The Knight Rider Historians have documented much of the restoration process for their growing audience, which includes more than 125,000 subscribers on YouTube. Their work has attracted attention from fans and media alike, with upcoming coverage expected to highlight the collaboration and final reveal.

This partnership underscores the lasting cultural impact of Knight Rider and showcases how legacy brands like Dorsey Trailer continue to play a role in preserving pieces of entertainment history, the OEM noted.
