Harvey Granger Jr, former president of Great Dane Trailers, died September 10. He was 81.
A native of Savannah, Granger had a 40-year career with Great Dane, including eight years as president and chief executive officer. He started with the company Great Dane as an engineer in 1956 and served in a several management positions before being promoted to president in 1984.
Granger was active in the Truck Trailer Manufacturers Association, including a term as chairman of the organization in 1986-1987.
He also was a member of the advisory board of Georgia Tech's School of Industrial and Systems Engineering and was named a distinguished alumnus of the school. Granger's major civic efforts involved work with Savannah area hospitals. From 1988 to 2003 he served as a trustee of Saint Joseph's Hospital and Saint Joseph's/Candler Health System. He was the founding chairman of Saint Joseph's/Candler Health System and served as either chairman or vice-chairman of the two institutions for nine years.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Barbara Brandt Granger, three children, and five grandchildren.
