Kögel highlighting upgrades to its KTT tipper trailer

Kögel Trailer recently introduced the latest version of its Kögel Trucker Tipper.

Kögel Trailer recently introduced the latest version of its Kögel Trucker Tipper (KTT), which it says features an increased payload and “high degree of user-friendliness” intended to meet the day-to-day needs of drivers.

Kögel plans to show a customized version of the tipper at bauma 2019 in Munich, Germany.

The KTT’s frame and body are payload- and weight-optimized, the company said, with a tipper trough incorporating a mix of materials. The three-axle tipper trailer with 24-cubic-meter (847.6-cubic-feet) loading volume Kögel is highlighting includes 4-millimeter thick flooring made of tempered Hardox 450 steel, side walls made of wear-resistant 5-millimeter-thick aluminum sheet, and back wall made of wear-resistant, 7-millimeter-thick aluminum.

“This combination is ideal for construction materials like crushed rock or gravel,” Kögel said. “Compared to a Kögel tipper trailer with 4-millimeter-thick steel side walls and a 4-millimeter-thick steel back wall, the new aluminum side walls and back wall enable a savings of up to 430 kilograms (948 pounds) in tare weight.”

The tipper’s user-friendliness is bolstered by a combination of parts fitted as standard and an extensive range of accessory equipment.

The wheelbase of the KTT is optimized for effective load distribution, improving handling, maneuverability and stability, even on difficult terrain, and the tipper body overhang was extended by 170 millimeters, rendering the optional attachable chute obsolete and saving money and weight, the company said.

The optional angular plate on the underride guard and locking device, which can be swung upward, combine to help prevent soiling during tipping. The locking catches automatically retract into the rear end during unloading, protecting them from soiling and damage. In addition, this tailgate lock ensures loose stones can’t get in the way during closing and allows the side walls to join smoothly with the rear wall gate.

Kögel said the bauma display version will be fitted with the optional LUXIMA multi-chamber LED tail light with integrated rear monitoring, which placed third at the international Trailer Innovation 2017 awards. Rear monitoring sensors are installed in the LUXIMA rear lights and license plate holder, eliminating the need for additional space.

The KTT also can be fitted with optional powered SAF TRAK axle for traction support on steep inclines. Two hydraulic radial piston motors in the wheel hubs of the powered trailer axle provide an extra boost, and the drive system uses the hydraulic pressure generated by the tractor unit to raise the tipper.

The bauma version also will feature special equipment, including a toolbox, control pedestal, roll-up cover, lift axle and flashing side markers.
