Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems hosted Deborah A.P. Hersman, Chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), on June 28 at the Michigan Proving Ground in Romeo, MI, to show demonstrations of the company’s active safety technologies.
Vehicle demonstrations included Antilock Braking Systems (ABS), SmartTrac Stability Control System, OnGuard Collision Safety System, and SafetyDirect Fleet Performance System.
“Our advanced safety systems continue to assist drivers in potentially avoiding accidents and increasing highway safety overall,” said Jon Morrison, president and general manager, Meritor WABCO. “It’s an honor to share our safety systems with Chairman Hersman and others from NTSB.”
SmartTrac Stability Control Systems is a suite of active safety systems that assist the driver in maintaining control of the vehicle in response to an impending loss of directional control or roll instability, reducing the risk of such events.
OnGuard Collision Safety System is a forward-looking, radar-based collision safety system that detects objects in a vehicle’s path and when appropriate automatically de-throttles the engine and applies the engine and service brakes when it senses a possible rear-end collision. The system continues to improve commercial vehicle safety with more than 11,000 units sold and more than one billion miles of proven road experience since its industry introduction in 2007.
SafetyDirect Fleet Performance System is a Web-based reporting tool that uses an onboard data logger to capture and report driving behavior, vehicle characteristics and severe events.
