Retail truck sales were up significantly in 2010, according to figures compiled by Ward’s Automotive Group.
It marked the first gain since the pre-buy of diesel powered trucks caused by the stringent emissions regulations that took effect in 2007.
Overall, truck sales were up 19% from their 2009 levels. Class 3 trucks (10,000 to 14,000 pounds GVWR) led the way with a 45% increase. Other strong performers included Class 5 (16,001-19,500 pounds GVWR), up 29%, and Class 6 (19,501-26,000 pounds), up 32% compared with 2009.
Classes 3-8, the heart of the commercial truck business, combined to post a 22% gain. Please see table for details.
