Stoughton Trailers, founded in 1961 by current CEO Don Wahlin, has produced its 250,000th commercial van trailer.
The company originally built truck bodies commonly used in the beverage and dairy industries as well as for transportation of raw materials and consumer products. The first Stoughton trailer, the “City Delivery Trailer,” came off the assembly line in 1963. It was a basic 32-foot trailer that has since given way to the 53-foott model of today.
Stoughton has manufacturing operations in Brodhead, Evansville and Stoughton, WI.
A steady increase in orders starting in late 2010, in addition to the return of intermodal container and chassis production, has led to the reopening of two manufacturing facilities and the addition of over 500 jobs. Stoughton currently employs just over 950, with plans for additional positions to be added.
