A newly designed Stoughton underride guard was tested at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety research center in Ruckersville, Virginia May 5.
The 30% offset test involved crashing a Chevrolet Malibu into the back of a Stoughton trailer so that the force of the impact was concentrated on the outer section of the guard. The new design successfully prevented the rear of the trailer from intruding into the passenger compartment in a 35 mph crash.
