New commercial trailer registrations (24 feet and over) for the first six months of the 2008 calendar year were down 33.7% from the comparable period a year ago, according to Polk’s Commercial Vehicle Market Intelligence Report.
The decline in trailer registrations mirrors the 36.3% decline in new GVW 8 vehicles.
The top five trailer body types account for 77.4% of total new trailer registrations,
compared to 82.1% during the first six months of 2007.
Vans are down 40%, flatbeds 45.5%, dumps 36.6% and tag-a-longs. The only type to experience a gain was grain trailers, up 18.4%.
