New Anthony liftgate built for LTL customers

Jan. 11, 2022
The large MTU-GLR-XL platform gives operators the ability to securely support large cargo, expanding the delivery capability of the vehicle and reducing the risk of damage from oversized cargo hanging off of platforms

Anthony Liftgates has begun production of a new liftgate model for specifically built for the needs of today’s less-then-truckload carriers.

The variety of items delivered by LTL carriers has grown with the increased prevalence of e-commerce, the manufacturer notes. So carriers today find often themselves delivering bulky items like hot tubs, swing sets, or furniture directly to homes using liftgates.

These items tend to be much larger than the platforms of liftgates commonly found on dock-height trucks and trailers. Using a liftgate to lower oversized loads compels drivers to either maneuver the cargo sideways or allow it to hang relatively unsupported off of the platform. Neither option is ideal.  Ultimately, this equipment mismatch may inhibit a carrier from delivering entire categories of cargo altogether.

Anthony’s solution to this heightened call for versatility is the new Tri-Fold platform now available on the MTU-GLR-XL TuckUnder liftgate which provides 50% greater load area than other liftgates in its class.

With such a large platform, the MTU-GLR-XL brings two key benefits to operators:

  • the ability to securely support large cargo, expanding the delivery capability of the vehicle and reducing the risk of damage from oversized cargo hanging off of platforms; and
  • a significant increase in the open platform space available to drivers.  Additional working space is always a welcome benefit when standing on an elevated surface such as a truck bed or liftgate platform.

The MTU-GLR-XL is well suited for dock-height trucks and trailers with a minimum laden bed height of 47” and is available in capacities of up to 4,000 pounds, according to Anthony. Like all tuck-style liftgates, it allows full access to the vehicle rear door when stowed and is dock-friendly. In addition to its exceptionally large platform, it features twin cylinder drive, hybrid level ride, standard power down operation, and grease-free bushings.
